Are you curious about your oral health and whether you’re doing your best – or just an “okay” job? Perhaps you would like to proclaim that of course you’re doing everything correctly. However, an occasional problem with a cavity or the sudden occurrence of gingivitis may cause you to think otherwise. Never worry – it’s perfectly normal to make a few missteps along the way. However, rather than feeling defeated, we suggest you take a couple suggestions to heart so you can avoid undermining your dental hygiene.
#1: You Use An Old Brush
Even if you’re brushing two times a day – even after meals just to be extra careful – you may not be seeing the results you want from your dental hygiene. Do yourself a favor if you are certain your approach to brushing isn’t the problem: Take a look at your toothbrush. Does it look brand new? How long have you had it? If it looks frayed (even if you purchased it a month ago), throw it out and start fresh. Or, if it’s been three months or longer since your last replacement, get to it – brushes need to replaced every three months or so to continue offering effective care.
#2: You Forget To Focus
If you become sidetracked during your dental hygiene session, you may assume more time has passed than actually has. For instance, if you’re reading the morning news on your tablet as you brush – or if you’re trying to condition your hair with one hand and brush with the other in the shower – chances are good you’re in a rush and not paying attention to the clock. Give yourself two minutes dedicated solely to brushing to make sure you don’t miss a spot.
