What causes you stress over the Thanksgiving holiday (and others)? Do you discover that your main source of worry is the fact that you’re about to completely abandon your dental hygiene arsenal and engage in an eating frenzy that includes many not-good-for-your-oral-health foods? If so, we know where you’re coming from. We also know that nobody wants to watch an entire table of people eat pie without participating! Take some of our advice into consideration, so you can have a wonderful experience, while keeping your teeth and gums protected.
Suggestion #1: Bring Sugarless Gum (And Chew It)
You don’t need all of your dental hygiene products with you to keep your smile in safe shape (however, it would be perfectly acceptable if you chose to rinse, brush, and floss after your meal!). For individuals seeking a less conspicuous way of removing food particles from your teeth after a meal or dessert, we suggest you bring sugarless gum with you. Chewing it after a meal for around a twenty-minute stretch can work wonders.
Suggestion #2: Rinse, Rinse, Rinse!
Rinsing your smile with water can help protect you from more oral health and smile concerns than you might think possible! Worried that the cranberry sauce and red wine is going to stain your smile? Rinse with water. Worried that the pumpkin pie is going to contribute to tooth decay? Rinse with water. You see where this is going! When it doubt, rinse. Of course, following that up with a brushing session 30 minutes later is always an added benefit. However, rinsing alone will do when your dental hygiene products are not within reach.
